The sale of electric vehicles for the year 2019-20 included 3,400 cars, 152,000 two wheelers and 600 buses. The sales of cars have declined mainly due to lack of bulk purchase of electric cars in the country.

The sale of E-rickshaws was also high. Around 90,000 e-rickshaws were sold in the year 2019-20.

Key Findings

Of the electric vehicles sold in 2019-20, 97% were electric scooters. Out of these electric scooters, 90% of them were low speed electric two wheelers that run at 25 km/hr.

The trend of electric taxis is slowly building up. However, the sales of these taxis are not growing due to lack of infrastructure of charging stations.
