ECI Launches Phase III of Special Intensive Revision

The Election Commission of India launched Phase III of the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls on 14 May 2026 across 16 States and 3 Union Territories. The exercise covers about 36.73 crore electors through door-to-door verification under the electoral roll revision process.

Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls

Special Intensive Revision, or SIR, is a field-level exercise for updating electoral rolls through house-to-house enumeration, verification, and correction of voter details. Electoral rolls are the official lists of eligible voters prepared under the Representation of the People Act, 1950.

Coverage in Phase III

The 16 States covered in Phase III are Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Telangana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Odisha, Uttarakhand, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura. The 3 Union Territories covered are Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, and the National Capital Territory of Delhi.

Field Machinery and Schedule

More than 3.94 lakh Booth Level Officers will conduct house-to-house enumeration, and more than 3.42 lakh Booth Level Agents appointed by political parties will assist the process. The schedule for Phase III was aligned with Census house-listing operations because both exercises use field-level administrative machinery.
