Delhi Launches Metro Monday Campaign
Delhi launched the ‘Metro Monday’ campaign on 18 May 2026 to promote public transport use and fuel conservation. The campaign is linked to the 90-day ‘Mera Bharat, Mera Yogdan’ initiative of the Delhi government and includes additional Delhi Metro Rail Corporation services on Mondays.
Metro Monday and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation is the statutory body that operates the Delhi Metro network in the National Capital Region. From 18 May 2026, the corporation will run 24 additional train trips every Monday using six extra trains across its network. Kashmere Gate and ITO are stations on the Delhi Metro network in central Delhi.
Administrative Measures for Fuel Saving
The Delhi government has ordered a mandatory two-day work-from-home policy for its employees. It has also issued an advisory to private companies to adopt similar arrangements. Office timings for Delhi government offices have been staggered from 10:30 am to 7 pm, while Municipal Corporation of Delhi offices have timings from 8:30 am to 5 pm.
Transport and Consumption Control Measures
The Delhi government has announced a 20% cut in petrol allocation for government officials. It has also stopped the purchase of new government vehicles for six months. Rekha Gupta, the Chief Minister of Delhi, travelled on the Delhi Metro from Kashmere Gate to ITO Metro Station during the launch.
