Delhi Lakshmi Yojana: Over 4,000 Women Receive Sanction Letters

Delhi Lakshmi Yojana is a monthly financial assistance scheme for eligible women in Delhi. It was launched on 26 August 2026 at Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi, and the scheme provides ₹2,500 per month to women aged 21 to 60 years from lower-income families.

Scheme structure and payment pattern

The scheme fixes the monthly assistance at ₹2,500. Under the payment design, ₹1,500 is placed in a locked fixed deposit or recurring deposit until 31 July 2029, and ₹1,000 is credited to a Central Bank Digital Currency wallet.

Eligibility conditions

The scheme guidelines require a beneficiary to be a registered Delhi voter. The applicant’s family must have lived in Delhi for at least 10 years, and the household electricity consumption must not exceed 2,400 units in the previous year.

Registration and initial distribution

The online registration portal opened on 1 August 2026. By the launch date, more than 9.22 lakh women had registered, and official data recorded 6.52 lakh completed applications.

On the launch day, the first 4,000 to 4,190 sanction letters were issued, while some press accounts placed the number of women who physically received approval certificates at about 2,500.

The Delhi government has budgeted ₹5,100 crore for the scheme in the 2026–27 financial year. The scheme was earlier announced as the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana, and the target coverage is more than 17 lakh women.
