Jyothi Surekha Vennam has bagged a silver medal in the women’s compound event at the ongoing World Archery Championship in Yankton.
She was defeated by world number three Sara Lopez of Colombia in the final clash. Earlier, the Indian women’s and mixed compound teams won silver medals in the World Championships. India women’s team comprised of Jyothi, Muskan Kirar and Priya Gurjar.

Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur addressed the Summit for Information and Democracy on the sidelines of the UNGA organised in New York. He participated in the discussion, by joining from Leh, Ladakh.
The ‘International Partnership for Information and Democracy’ was launched in New York on 26 September 2019. It aims to promote freedom of opinion and expression and access to free, pluralistic and reliable information. The partnership has been signed by 43 States, till date.

Cyclone Gulab, made landfall in the state of Andhra Pradesh, hitting the landmass between Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. It then crossed the Bay of Bengal coast off Kalingapatnam.
Four months after Cyclone Yaas caused destruction across Odisha and West Bengal, another cyclone formed across south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coast. In the 21st century, only two tropical cyclones—Daye (2018) and Pyarr (2005)— made landfall over the Indian east coast from the Bay of Bengal. Hence, Cyclone Gulab is the third such cyclone to make landfall in September.

This year, two scientists- Katalin Karikó and Dr. Drew Weissman who developed key technology used in the COVID-19 mRNA vaccines have been awarded the $250,000 Lasker-DeBakey Clinical Medical Research Award. The messenger RNA (mRNA) forms the basis of the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines.

Tai-Ahom and Matak communities are demanding for being accorded the Scheduled Tribe (ST) status in the state of Assam.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma held discussions with representatives of the two communities regarding their demand. All Assam Tribal Sangha (AATS), the apex tribal body of the State, is authorised by the government to recommend issuing ST certificates in the State. Besides the two, tea tribes, Koch-Rajbonshi, Moran and Chutia communities are also demanding ST status.
