As per the Sample Registration System (SRS) Statistical Report 2020 released on September 22, 2022 by Registrar General of India (RGI), India has been witnessing progressive reduction in IMR, U5MR and NMR.
Under-five mortality rate was recorded at 32 per 1000 live births in 2020 against 35 per 1000 live births in 2019. Infant Mortality rate (IMR) has also registered 2-point decline to 28 per 1000 live births in 2020 from 30 per 1000 live births in 2019.

India has exported the first consignment of plant-based meat products from Kheda district of Gujarat to California in the United States.
Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Authority (APEDA) facilitated the export of the first consignment of plant-based meat products under the Vegan Food category. APEDA has planned to promote a variety of vegan food products to Australia, Israel, New Zealand, and others.

Notes:
The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment launched an Indian Sign Language (ISL) dictionary mobile application called ‘Sign Learn’.
It is based on the Indian sign language dictionary of the Indian Sign Language Research and Training Centre (ISLRTC) which contains 10,000 words. ISLRTC signed MoU with NCERT to convert NCERT textbooks from classes 1 to 12 into the Indian Sign Language to make the textbooks accessible to children with hearing disabilities.

Researchers in China have discovered a new type of crystal in the volcanic debris of the near side of the moon.
They also discovered potential fuel source for production of clean and efficient energy on Earth. The small, transparent crystal has been named Changesite-(Y), after the Chinese moon goddess Chang’e.

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) will launch the ‘Swachh Vayu Sarvekshan’ programme under National Clean Air Programme 2019 (NCAP).
Swachh Vayu Sarvekshan will rank 131 cities in the country for implementing City Action Plans prepared as part of NCAP to reducie air pollution up to 40 per cent by 2025-26.
