In 2016, the Indian government gave an ‘in principle’ approval to the LIGO-India mega science proposal for research on gravitational waves.
India’s Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) project facility is to come up in Maharashtra. Recently, the Hingoli revenue department has handed over 225 hectare of land in the state for the project.

Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Parshottam Rupala inaugurated India’s first-of-its-kind, dedicated fisheries business incubator known as LINAC- NCDC Fisheries Business Incubation Centre (LlFlC) in Gurugram.
It aims to encourage initiatives among entrepreneurs providing them support in the fisheries sector to move towards self-reliance. The incubator costs Rs 3.23 crore. In total, there are around 30,000 cooperatives in the fisheries sector.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared antimicrobial resistance (AMR) as one of the top 10 global health threats.
This year during the World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (November 18-24), ‘Go Blue’ campaign aims to raise awareness on AMR. Antimicrobial resistance occurs when microbes such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites don’t respond to medicines, which makes infections difficult to treat.

The “Stop Soros” legislation was passed in June 2018, by the Hungarian parliament. It outlawed helping illegal immigrants apply for residence inside the country, with punishments of up to one year in prison.
The legislation was supported by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and his ruling party Fidesz. Recently the European Union (EU) Top Court has ruled that Hungary’s move to criminalise support of asylum seekers infringes EU law.

The Tripura Education Department has launched the ‘Mother on Campus’ initiative, to improve academic performance of students.
Here, biological or legally-authenticated mothers can stay with their children on campus, to induce a sense of security among children and to benefit the academic performance of the children. Mothers of children staying in state-run hostels and boarding schools in Tripura can now stay with the kids.
