“Pillar of Shame” is a statue commemorating those killed in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square. It is a eight-metre high statue located in University of Hong Kong’s (HKU) campus since 1997.
The memorial features 50 anguished faces and tortured bodies and commemorates democracy protesters killed by Chinese troops around Tiananmen Square in 1989. Hong Kong’s oldest university launched an overnight operation to dismantle the statue.

China’s Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) announced the draft amendment to the ‘Law on the Protection of the Rights and Interests of Women’.
It is a three-decade-old law to protect women’s rights at the workplace and at home. Under the proposal, employers are banned from stating gender preferences in job advertisements or asking female applicants about their marital and pregnancy status.

Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) has proposed some strict norms in the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC).
The MCA proposed that the IBC should provide the adjudicating authority with 30 days for approving or rejecting a resolution plan. The government has sought public comments on the proposal by January 13.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has recently extended the tokenisation rules till June 30, 2022. The deadline for wiping off card data on merchant sites and applying tokenisation has been extended by another six months.
This step has been taken by the Central Bank as merchants and payment companies expressed their inability to meet the earlier deadline of December 31, 2021. Card on file tokenisation (CoFT) is used to register card data with a merchant site.

December 24 is celebrated annually across India as National Consumer Rights Day. It is also called National Consumer Day.
The Day commemorates December 24, 1986, the date when the Consumer Protection Act received assent of the President of India. The purpose of the day is to make consumers aware of their rights and responsibilities. World Consumer Rights Day is celebrated annually on March 15.
