Tata Group has proposed to purchase online grocer Big Basket and it has received the approval from Competition Commission of India for the acquisition.
Tata Group’s digital arm Tata Digital Ltd would acquire Big Basket for a value of Rs.9,500 crore, which is 64.3% of the total share capital of Big Basket.

The Appointments committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of present Expenditure Secretary TV Somanathan as the Finance Secretary of Government of India. An order by the Personnel Ministry has been issued in this regard.
He is a 1987-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Tamil Nadu cadre.

Notes:
The Reserve Bank of India issued guidelines for appointment of statutory auditors of Commercial Banks (excluding RRBs), UCBs and NBFCs (including HFCs).
Banks and UCBs will be required to take prior approval of RBI for appointment/reappointment of SCAs/SAs, on an annual basis. Entities will have to appoint the SCAs/SAs for a continuous period of three years, subject to their satisfying the eligibility norms. This will protect the independence of the auditors.

‘Putola Nach’ is a traditional form of string puppetry, practised in the state of Assam. It has become a near-forgotten art form.
Recently, an Assam based trust ARMT has created three short videos using string puppetry for creating mass awareness on COVID appropriate behaviour. This project was undertaken in association with UNICEF- Assam.

Mark Selby became the World Champion for the fourth time in the game of Snooker. The ace player won the Championship defeating Shaun Murphy at Sheffield, England.
Selby has also moved up to second spot in world rankings, next only to Judd Trump. Mark Selby is an English professional snooker player, who has won 20 ranking titles, and at seventh place on the all-time list of ranking tournament wins.

Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) regained market capitalisation (m-cap) of Rs 50,000 crore. It also entered into the league of top 100 most valued companies in terms of market capitalisation.
The state-owned steel major has 5 large integrated steel plants (Bhillai, Rourkela, Durgapur, Bokaro and IISCO) spread across 4 states in eastern India. In addition, SAIL also has 3 special steel plants (Salem Steel plant, Alloy Steel plant and Visvesvaraya iron and steel plant) and a Ferro Alloy plant at Chandrapur.

A team of researchers in Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Bhopal have studied “N-protein” in Covid virus. It has been found that this N Protein promotes the incorporation of the spike protein into viral particles.
The infectivity levels of the virus have been found to significantly vary with the levels of N Protein present in it.

Notes:
Researchers have found the fossil bone fragments of sauropods – a long neck dinosaur at West Khasi Hills District in Meghalaya. The fossil is assumed to be about 100-million-years old.
This finding makes Meghalaya the 5th state in India after Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu to report Sauropod bones.

World Asthma Day (WAD) is organized by the Global Initiative for Asthma, (GINA). It is a World Health Organization collaborative organization founded in 1993.
Every year World Asthma Day is organised on May 5, every year, to raise awareness of Asthma worldwide. This year’s World Asthma Day theme is “Uncovering Asthma Misconceptions”. WHO estimates that over 339 million people had Asthma globally.

Mamata Banerjee was sworn as Bengal Chief Minister for the third time. She has been the Chief Minister of the state since 2011.
Veteran leader Sheila Dikshit is the longest-serving Chief Minister of Delhi, as well as the longest-serving female chief minister of any Indian state. She served for a period of 15 years since 1998.
