BRICS adopts joint declaration on industrial cooperation

The Tenth BRICS Industry Ministers’ Meeting was held in Jaipur, Rajasthan, on 6 August 2026. The member countries adopted a Joint Declaration under the BRICS Partnership on New Industrial Revolution (PartNIR) for resilient, innovation-driven and sustainable industrial growth.

BRICS and PartNIR

BRICS is an intergovernmental grouping of major emerging economies. The BRICS Partnership on New Industrial Revolution, or PartNIR, is a cooperation framework for industrial development, digital technologies, innovation and manufacturing.

Photovoltaic and SME cooperation

The meeting adopted the Terms of Reference and Action Plan for the BRICS Working Group on the Photovoltaic Industry. The framework for cooperation in the SME Working Group was also finalised for strengthening MSME ecosystems across member states.

Plans for resilient, GIS-based transport and city logistics planning were approved during the meeting. GIS refers to Geographic Information System, a tool used for mapping, spatial analysis and transport planning.

Innovation and startup proposals

India proposed a BRICS Incubator Network and a BRICS Startup Innovation Fund during the meeting. These proposals were placed in the context of innovation-led industrial cooperation among BRICS members.

India’s Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, addressed the session in Jaipur. India’s Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Jitin Prasada, referred to Brazil’s 2025 Chairship and India’s continuation of the cooperation agenda.

Trade Ministers’ Meeting

The 16th BRICS Trade Ministers’ Meeting was scheduled in Jaipur for 7 August 2026 under India’s Chairship. BRICS trade and industry ministerial meetings are part of the grouping’s sectoral cooperation structure.
