Biotech Start-up Expo – 2022
On June 9, 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Biotech Start-up Expo – 2022 at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.
Highlights
- The Biotech Start-up Expo-2022 is India’s first such start-up expo. It is a reflection of the expansive growth of biotech sector in India.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with Union Ministers Piyush Goyal, Dharmendra Pradhan and Dr Jitendra Singh, attended the Start-up Expo- 2022.
The Biotech Start-up Expo 2022
It is a two-day event and is being held on June 9 and 10, 2022. It is being organised by Department of Biotechnology and Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC). 300 stalls have been set up at the event, showcasing applications of biotechnology in fields like healthcare, agriculture, clean energy, genomics, biopharma, waste-to-value and industrial biotechnology.
Significance of the Expo
Biotech Start-up Expo 2022 is being held for marking the completion of ten years of setting up of BIRAC.
Theme of Biotech Start-up Expo 2022
Biotech Start-up Expo 2022 is being held under the theme “Biotech Start-up Innovations: Towards Aatma Nirbhar Bharat”.
Objectives of the start-up
The Biotech Start-up Expo 2022 will provide a common platform for connecting investors, scientists, entrepreneurs, industry leaders, researchers, bio-incubators, manufacturers, government officials and regulators.
About BIRAC
BIRAC is an industry-academia interface, set up by Department of Biotechnology (DBT). It implements its mandate by means of several impact initiatives, like technology transfer, IP management & handholding scheme, and providing access to risk capital through targeted funding, which will bring innovation excellence across biotech firms and make them competitive worldwide. It was established on March 20, 2012.
