Amit Shah Launches Land Port Management System VINIMAY

Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched the Land Port Management System (LPMS) named VINIMAY in New Delhi on 9 June 2026. VINIMAY is a centralised digital platform for land ports in India and it integrates cargo, passenger and vehicle processing on a single interface.

Land Ports in India

Land ports are official cross-border terminals that handle passengers, cargo and vehicles at land borders. India has 15 operational land ports, and 11 more are planned over the next two to three years, which will take the total to 26.

Features of VINIMAY

VINIMAY provides a Single Electronic Window for users at land ports. It enables real-time information sharing among border guarding forces, regulatory bodies and other central agencies. The system is designed to reduce paperwork, improve processing and support digital coordination at border terminals.

Smart Border Initiative and Trade Data

LPMS is part of the Centre’s four-pronged Smart Border initiative. Trade routed through land ports increased from ₹5,000 crore in 2014 to ₹83,000 crore at present, which is a 16-fold rise. The system is linked with border management, customs facilitation and movement of goods and passengers.

Operational Changes at Land Ports

LPMS is expected to eliminate nearly 90% of paperwork at land ports. It is also projected to reduce truck waiting times by 40% to 60% and cut gate processing time by 22% to 35%. The system is intended to move more transactions into legitimate channels.
