63rd Walong Day: Honouring the Heroes of the 1962 Battle of Walong

The 63rd Walong Day observance brought together military leaders, veterans and civilians to honour the exceptional courage displayed by Indian soldiers during the 1962 Battle of Walong. Events held on 15 and 16 November 2025 in Arunachal Pradesh celebrated bravery, heritage and the enduring civil–military bond of the region.

Tribute to the Heroes of the Battle of Walong

Senior military officials, including the Eastern Army Commander and the GOC Spear Corps, attended the ceremonies alongside the Deputy Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh. A solemn wreath-laying at the Walong War Memorial formed the centrepiece of the final day, followed by the unveiling of statues dedicated to the soldiers who fought in the high-altitude frontier battle.

Cultural Events Mark Walong Day Eve

The commemorative eve on 15 November featured a dramatic Light and Sound Show, drone formations and sand art installations. Musical and cultural presentations narrated the story of the fierce resistance offered by Indian troops, highlighting the sacrifices made in extreme Himalayan conditions.

State Leadership’s Vision for Heritage and Tourism

Arunachal Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister paid homage to the 388 soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice during the battle. He emphasised the unity between local communities and the Army. Announcing a push to develop Walong as a historical and tourism destination, he outlined initiatives such as the Sunrise Festival, a War Memorial Museum and enhanced digital and road connectivity.
