World Day of Social Justice Observed with Preamble Reading

Reaffirming its commitment to the Constitutional ideals of justice, equality and dignity, the Department of Social Justice & Empowerment (DoSJE), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, will organise a special programme on 20 February 2026 to mark the World Day of Social Justice. The event is being held in collaboration with National Law University (NLU), Dwarka, New Delhi.

A central feature of the programme will be the reading of the Preamble to the Constitution of India, led by the Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Shri B. L. Verma. The collective reading will symbolise renewed commitment to the principles of Justice — Social, Economic and Political — along with Liberty, Equality and Fraternity.

World Day of Social Justice is observed annually on 20 February. It underscores the global resolve to promote social inclusion, eliminate discrimination and reduce inequalities. The day highlights the importance of equitable access to opportunities, particularly for marginalised and disadvantaged communities.

Senior officers of the Department, officials of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), faculty members and students of NLU Dwarka will participate in the programme. Their presence signifies a collective commitment to upholding constitutional governance and social justice.

The Department of Social Justice & Empowerment plays a key role in implementing welfare schemes for Scheduled Castes, Other Backward Classes, senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
