West Bengal Hosts First Kaushal Mahotsav in Balurghat
West Bengal hosted its first Kaushal Mahotsav on 18 August 2026 at Balurghat Stadium in Dakshin Dinajpur district. It was the 11th Kaushal Mahotsav held in India and was organised by the Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, the National Skill Development Corporation, and the Government of West Bengal.

Kaushal Mahotsav is a large-scale job fair linked to the Skill India Mission. It connects employers with job seekers for recruitment, screening, and placement across multiple sectors.
Venue and Participation
The event was held at Balurghat Stadium in Dakshin Dinajpur, a district in northern West Bengal. More than 50 employers participated, including Wipro, Tata Group, and Axis Bank.
Over 8,000 candidates registered for the fair, and more than 7,500 interviews were conducted in a single day. The event offered over 7,000 career opportunities in IT, banking, logistics, hospitality, healthcare, manufacturing, and retail.
Organising Institutions
The Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship is the central ministry responsible for skill development policy in India. The National Skill Development Corporation is a public-private partnership institution created to support vocational training and employability initiatives.
The Government of West Bengal participated in the organisation of the event through state-level administrative support and local coordination.
Attendance and Public Outreach
Union Minister of State for Education Dr. Sukanta Majumdar attended the event along with West Bengal Tribal Development Minister Kshudiram Tudu and MoS for Irrigation and Waterways Joyel Murmu. The event also included administrative officials and local stakeholders from Dakshin Dinajpur district.
