Shukla was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Raipur, on December 2 after experiencing breathing difficulties. According to his family, he had earlier been hospitalised at a private facility in Raipur in October following similar complications and was discharged after his condition improved. His health deteriorated suddenly again in early December, necessitating admission to AIIMS Raipur. He breathed his last at 4.48 pm on Tuesday, his son Shashwat Shukla confirmed.

His mortal remains were taken to his residence in Raipur, with the family stating that details regarding the last rites would be announced shortly.
