Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Approves Renaming of Jalalabad to Parshurampuri

The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet approved the renaming of Jalalabad town in Shahjahanpur district as Parshurampuri on 6 July 2026. The decision also applies to the municipal body, which will be known as Parshurampuri Nagar Palika Parishad.

The local municipal council passed resolutions supporting the name change in 2018 and 2023. The Uttar Pradesh government received the proposal on 24 April 2025 and sought the Centre’s permission on 27 June 2025. The Ministry of Home Affairs issued a no objection on 19 August 2025.
