Tata Projects, MDS Aero Partner for Aero-Engine Testing
Tata Projects and Canada-based MDS Aero Support Corporation signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 28 September 2026 to develop advanced aero-engine testing infrastructure in India. The partnership covers civil works, structural works, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, high-air-pressure systems, HVAC, high-temperature exhaust systems, cooling-water systems, and site infrastructure for engine test facilities.
Aero-Engine Testing Infrastructure
Aero-engine testing infrastructure includes test beds, exhaust handling systems, cooling systems, air supply systems, and control systems used for gas turbine engine evaluation. Such facilities are used for performance testing, validation, and commissioning of aircraft propulsion systems.
Roles of the Partners
Tata Projects is an Indian Engineering, Procurement and Construction company with experience in specialised infrastructure for strategic programmes. Its portfolio includes cryogenic engine testing infrastructure and tri-sonic wind tunnels. MDS Aero Support Corporation was founded in 1985 and has experience in more than 27 countries in the design, engineering, supply, integration, commissioning, and lifecycle support of gas turbine engine test facilities.
India’s Aerospace Testing Ecosystem
India’s aerospace and propulsion ecosystem includes aircraft manufacturing, propulsion systems, testing facilities, and advanced technology infrastructure. Domestic engine testing has often taken place on test beds outside India, which has made indigenous testing capacity a recurring requirement in the sector.
Important Facts for Exams
- Memorandum of Understanding is a formal agreement used to record cooperation between two entities.
- Gas turbine engines are used in aircraft propulsion and in several industrial applications.
- Cryogenic engine testing infrastructure is associated with very low-temperature propulsion systems used in space programmes.
- Tri-sonic wind tunnels are used for aerodynamic testing across subsonic, transonic, and supersonic flow regimes.
The partnership adds to Tata Projects’ work in aerospace, space, semiconductors, and advanced technology facilities in India. It also links Indian infrastructure execution with Canadian engine-testing expertise.
