Tamil Nadu Launches Women Entrepreneur Empowerment Scheme

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has launched the Tamil Nadu Women Entrepreneur Empowerment Scheme (TWEES) to promote women-led businesses in the State. The initiative, designed by the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Department, aims to encourage one lakh women to take up entrepreneurship over the next five years. The announcement was made during an event at the State Secretariat where multiple welfare, infrastructure and development projects were also inaugurated or launched.

Promoting Women-Led Entrepreneurship

The Tamil Nadu Women Entrepreneur Empowerment Scheme aims to strengthen economic opportunities for women by supporting them in establishing and expanding businesses. The programme is expected to provide institutional support, training and financial assistance to aspiring women entrepreneurs. By encouraging greater participation of women in the MSME sector, the government aims to improve employment generation and strengthen local economic development.

Multiple Infrastructure Projects Launched

During the event, the Chief Minister virtually inaugurated welfare centres for construction workers and elderly citizens established by the Labour Welfare and Skill Development Department. He also laid the foundation for three new Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) to be built at a cost of ₹27 crore. Medical infrastructure projects across the State worth ₹167 crore were also inaugurated. In addition, warehousing facilities with a storage capacity of 60,000 metric tonnes are set to be constructed by the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation at a cost of ₹78 crore.

Urban Planning and Sectoral Development

Mr. Stalin released the Tiruchirappalli Master Plan 2045 and the Thoothukudi Master Plan 2045 to guide urban development in the coming decades. Infrastructure projects worth ₹100 crore were also inaugurated to strengthen the fisheries sector. Additionally, the foundation was laid for 13 new development projects valued at ₹665 crore. These initiatives aim to boost industrial growth, improve infrastructure and enhance public services across the State.

Conservation, Culture and Social Initiatives

The Chief Minister also laid the foundation for several conservation projects, including a Mangrove Conservation Centre at Pichavaram in Cuddalore district, an International Migratory Bird Centre at Marakkanam in Villupuram district and a conservation centre for the Nilgiri Tahr in Coimbatore. Additional initiatives included the inauguration of new shooting floors at the M.G.R. Film and Television Institute and the translation of 73 works of B.R. Ambedkar from Marathi into Tamil. The State government also reported that during the past five years, it distributed 23.56 lakh land pattas and facilitated housing for 8.66 lakh families while developing 30 SIPCOT industrial estates and allocating over 7,500 acres for new industrial units.
