Tamil Nadu Launches Singappen Special Force
Tamil Nadu launched the Singappen Special Task Force on 9 June 2026 at Rajarathinam Stadium in Egmore, Chennai. The all-women police unit functions under the direct supervision of the Chief Minister and is led by Inspector General of Police K Bhavaneeswari.
Formation and Administrative Structure
The Singappen Special Task Force was among the first orders signed by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay after he took office on 10 May 2026. The force has a sanctioned strength of 36 posts in its first phase. The sanctioned posts include one Inspector General of Police, one Superintendent of Police, two Deputy Superintendents of Police, four Inspectors, eight Sub-Inspectors, and 20 personnel from other ranks.
Operational Mandate
The unit has been created for women’s and children’s safety across Tamil Nadu. Its duties include identifying vulnerable areas, increasing surveillance, conducting patrols, and taking prompt action on complaints. The force covers public places such as bus stands, railway stations, educational institutions, and IT hubs.
Personnel and Field Deployment
Eighteen sub-inspectors were deputed to the force on an On Duty basis in the last week of May 2026. Two of these sub-inspectors were drawn from the Cyber Crime Wing. A unique uniform has been introduced for the women police personnel attached to the force.
