Jammu and Kashmir Approves ₹93 Crore Power Projects
On 15 May 2026, the Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet approved power infrastructure projects worth ₹93 crore for Srinagar and adjoining areas. The projects include augmentation of the Grid Sub Station at Zainakote and upgradation of two 132 KV transmission lines.
Grid Sub Station at Zainakote
The Grid Sub Station at Zainakote is a power transmission facility in Srinagar. Its capacity will increase from 450 MVA to 780 MVA at an estimated cost of ₹67.66 crore. MVA stands for megavolt ampere and is a unit used to measure apparent power in electrical systems.
Transmission Line Upgradation
The Cabinet sanctioned the upgradation of the 132 KV Pampore-Rawalpora line and the 132 KV Rawalpora-Bemina line. The estimated cost of these transmission line works is ₹25.47 crore. A 132 KV line is part of the high-voltage transmission network used for bulk power transfer.
Council of Ministers and Power Sector
These approvals were granted during the sixth meeting of the Council of Ministers. The projects form part of power sector infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir, where transmission capacity and distribution reliability are linked to grid substations and high-voltage lines.
