Sikkim Police Receives President’s Police Colour

The President’s Police Colour, also called Nishaan, is the highest ceremonial honour for a police force in India. On 28 May 2026, President Droupadi Murmu conferred the award on the Sikkim Police at Paljor Stadium in Gangtok.

The President’s Police Colour is a ceremonial distinction given to police forces for exceptional service, bravery, professionalism, discipline, and dedication to the nation. Sikkim Police became the 15th state police force in India to receive this honour.

Sikkim Police: Formation and Role

The Sikkim Police was established in 1897. It functions in a Himalayan border state and has roles in law and order, community policing, emergency response, crime prevention, and action against drug abuse.

Recognition in the Northeast

Sikkim Police became the third police force in the Northeast to receive the President’s Police Colour after Assam Police and Tripura Police. The Ministry of Home Affairs issued the official communication on 16 January 2026.
