Revamped Multi Agency Centre

The Multi Agency Centre (MAC) has undergone upgrades to enhance India’s counter-terrorism capabilities. Recently inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the revamped MAC serves as a national intelligence-sharing fusion centre. It aims to improve coordination among various state and central agencies in combating terrorism and other security threats. The MAC was initially established in 2001 following the Kargil conflict and was strengthened after the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
Overview of the Multi Agency Centre
The MAC is designed to facilitate the sharing, storing, collating, and analysis of intelligence inputs related to terrorism. It focuses on four main areas – Jammu & Kashmir, Northeast India, Left-Wing Extremism (LWE), and the Rest of India. The centre integrates 28 organisations, including the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and armed forces, to ensure real-time intelligence sharing.
Infrastructure and Investment
The new MAC network connects all police districts across India through a secure communication network. This upgrade was executed at a cost of ₹500 crore. The infrastructure is designed to ensure last-mile connectivity, reaching even the most remote areas, including mountainous and insurgency-affected regions.
Technological Advancements
The revamped MAC incorporates advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning. These technologies are employed to analyse vast amounts of data effectively. The integration of Geographic Information System (GIS) services allows for enhanced trend analysis and predictive operations.
Operational Capabilities
The upgraded MAC network enhances the operational capabilities of security agencies. It facilitates better trend analysis, hotspot mapping, and predictive outcomes. This is crucial for tackling serious threats like terrorism, organised crime, and cyberattacks.
Integration with Other Agencies
The Union Home Minister emphasised the importance of integrating databases from various central agencies into the MAC platform. This integration will leverage advanced data analytics, providing a more comprehensive understanding of security threats.
Future Roadmap
The future roadmap for MAC includes further enhancements in data analytics capabilities. This will enable accurate trend analysis and operational outcomes, making it a vital tool in India’s national security framework.
