He will also hold discussions with the Prime Minister of Thailand. The theme of the 6th BIMSTEC Summit is “BIMSTEC – Prosperous, Resilient and Open.” In November 2019, he attended the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and East Asia Summit in Thailand. India and Thailand share strong historical, cultural, and religious ties. BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) connects South and Southeast Asia, promoting regional progress. BIMSTEC members include Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and Thailand.

A Declaration on Disaster Preparedness was recently adopted at the 4th Ministerial Conference of the Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System (RIMES) held in Colombo, Sri Lanka. RIMES, established in 2009, is an intergovernmental body that supports member countries with early warning services, disaster risk reduction plans, and training support. It was formed after the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami by countries in Africa, Asia, and the Pacific to build a strong regional warning system. RIMES has 22 member states and 26 collaborating states. Its regional early warning center is based at the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand.

The World Hydrogen Summit 2025 was held in Rotterdam, Netherlands from May 20 to 22. At this global event, India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) showcased its green hydrogen plans under the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM). India targets the production of 5 Million Metric Tonnes (MMT) of green hydrogen per year by 2030. This mission aims to reduce carbon emissions, attract investments worth 100 billion US dollars, and generate employment. Major focus areas include building electrolyzer manufacturing capacity, developing green hydrogen hubs at ports, and encouraging state-level policies to support the transition.

The Department of Fisheries (DoF), under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying (MoFAH&D), held the Fisheries Secretaries Conference 2025 and National Workshop on 23rd May 2025 in New Delhi. The meeting reviewed progress of Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF), and Pradhan Mantri Matsya Kisan Samridhi Sah-Yojana (PM-MKSSY). A pilot project was announced to use drones for transporting live fish in remote areas, with a 70-kg payload drone under development. Satellite technology will be used soon for improving fisher safety, mapping fish resources, and doing biometric verification. ASEAN stands for Association of Southeast Asian Nations and is a regional group that promotes political, economic, and security cooperation. It was established in 1967 through the Bangkok Declaration by Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. Its headquarters is in Jakarta, Indonesia, showing Indonesia’s key role in the group.

The conference is held in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan. It is a high-level global summit focused on urgent action to stop glacier retreat and protect freshwater from cryospheric sources. It is organised by the Republic of Tajikistan with support from United Nations (UN) agencies. The event is declared under the UN Resolution that made 2025 the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation.
