A Declaration on Disaster Preparedness was recently adopted at the 4th Ministerial Conference of the Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System (RIMES) held in Colombo, Sri Lanka. RIMES, established in 2009, is an intergovernmental body that supports member countries with early warning services, disaster risk reduction plans, and training support. It was formed after the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami by countries in Africa, Asia, and the Pacific to build a strong regional warning system. RIMES has 22 member states and 26 collaborating states. Its regional early warning center is based at the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand.

On May 15, 2025, the Inclusive India Summit was held at India International Centre, New Delhi, to mark Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD). The event was conducted in hybrid mode and organized with the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), under the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. It was supported by the State Bank of India (SBI) Foundation, National Association for the Blind (NAB), Association of People with Disability (APD), and Mission Accessibility. The summit highlighted that accessibility and inclusion for persons with disabilities is a shared duty of all society. It focused on three key areas of life for Divyangjan: Life, Learning, and Livelihood. The World Hydrogen Summit 2025 was held in Rotterdam, Netherlands from May 20 to 22. At this global event, India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) showcased its green hydrogen plans under the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM). India targets the production of 5 Million Metric Tonnes (MMT) of green hydrogen per year by 2030. This mission aims to reduce carbon emissions, attract investments worth 100 billion US dollars, and generate employment. Major focus areas include building electrolyzer manufacturing capacity, developing green hydrogen hubs at ports, and encouraging state-level policies to support the transition.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Rising North East Investors Summit in New Delhi, emphasizing zero tolerance towards terrorism and Maoist unrest. He described EAST as Empower, Act, Strengthen, and Transform, highlighting the North East’s diversity as India’s strength. The National Conference on Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Empowering Persons with Disabilities was held in Bengaluru, Karnataka on 30 May 2025. It brought together experts, technologists, officials, and disability advocates to explore how AI can improve accessibility and inclusion. Four major initiatives were launched: Mission AI Accessibility, Mission AI for Assistive Technologies, National Disability Support AI Chatbot, and United Benefits Interface (UBI). These initiatives aim to use AI to create inclusive digital tools and support systems. The event was organised by the Department for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) and Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO).
