At the 2025 G-20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa secured the adoption of the G-20 Leaders’ Declaration by consensus despite the U.S. boycott.This was the first G-20 Summit ever held in Africa, marking a milestone for the Global South and African development in global governance. The Declaration was unusually adopted at the beginning of the Summit rather than at the end, which had never happened before. The text was already negotiated and finalised by Sherpas, allowing early approval. South Africa called the adoption an “affirmation of multilateralism” and stated that the G-20 cannot be blocked by the absence of any single country, including the U.S.

In November 2025, the Union Minister of Jal Shakti inaugurated the Vision for Sujalam Bharat Summit 2025 in New Delhi. The summit follows the vision of the Prime Minister to promote cooperative federalism and evidence-based policymaking. It is part of NITI Aayog’s (National Institution for Transforming India) six national thematic summits. The water sector theme covers rivers, drinking water, sanitation, groundwater, irrigation, and rural–urban water management. Six national workshops were held on rivers, greywater reuse, water technology, recharge, drinking water, and behaviour change.

The 46th Annual Conference of the Indian Association for the Study of Population (IASP) was inaugurated at the Anthropological Survey of India (AnSI), Kolkata. The upgrades include 6 weather radars, 33 observatories, and 142 AWS (Automatic Weather Stations). World Summit on Disaster Management 2025 serves as a global platform on disaster resilience for scientists, policymakers, practitioners, and industry leaders.
