It was hosted between 30 May to 14 July in England and a single venue in Wales. The final between England and New Zealand ended in a tie after the match ended with both teams scoring 241 runs, followed by the first Super Over in an ODI; England won the title, their first, on the boundary countback rule after the Super Over also finished level.

Lyn Fullston took the most wickets in the Women’s Cricket World Cup tournament. Lyn Fullston known by her friends and peers as Lefty, was a World Champion Australian Cricketer, Australian netball representative, gifted sportswoman and dedicated Physical Education teacher in South Australia. Fullston took up cricket in 1977 and first represented South Australia in 1979, before her International debut versus India in the 1982 World Cup.
