On May 7, 2024, the UN General Assembly, comprising 193 members, passed a resolution to designate May 25 as World Football Day annually. The Libyan ambassador to the UN, Taher El-Sonni, introduced the resolution, which gained consensus support and was co-sponsored by over 160 member nations. Highlighting football’s global popularity, the ambassador emphasized its ubiquity across towns, cities, and villages worldwide.

The 4th Global Bio-India 2024 event concluded on 14 September 2024 in New Delhi. It was a three-day event showcasing India’s potential in biotech research, development, and manufacturing. The event has been held annually since 2021.
It was organized by the Department of Biotechnology and BIRAC under the Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India. South Korea was the partner country. Dr. Jitendra Singh inaugurated the event on 12 September 2024. The theme was ‘Biotech Innovation’ and ‘Bio-manufacturing,’ promoting India as a global hub

The 2nd NADA India Inclusion Conclave took place in New Delhi on September 18, 2024, following the first conclave held in December 2022. It was held alongside international meetings under the UNESCO anti-doping convention on September 17-18. Union Ministers Mansukh Mandaviya and Raksha Nikhil Khadse attended the inauguration. Organised by NADA under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the conclave aims to raise anti-doping awareness among para-athletes. India had the highest doping cases in 2022, and a WADA report from January 2024 ranked India second in doping cases by minors, after Russia.

National Legal Services Day is observed annually on November 9 in India to promote legal awareness and ensure justice for all, especially marginalized communities. It was started in 1995 by the Supreme Court to provide free legal assistance to the weaker sections of society. The day emphasizes empowering people with knowledge about their legal rights and promoting conflict resolution. Legal Services Authorities across India celebrate this day with programs and initiatives, including workshops and camps. NALSA releases information on legal rights, aid schemes, and Lok Adalats to raise awareness and bridge the gap between the law and the public.

World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW) is held annually from November 18-24 to raise AMR awareness. This year’s WAAW theme, “Educate. Advocate. Act now,” stresses the urgent need for AMR action. WHO estimates AMR caused 1.27 million deaths in 2019 and contributed to 4.95 million deaths globally. Key AMR risk factors in developing nations include high population, limited healthcare, and misuse of antimicrobials. The 2024 UN Political Declaration on AMR aims for 60% of countries to have funded AMR action plans by 2030. Immediate global action is needed to educate, advocate, and commit resources to tackle AMR for future health security.

The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention takes place in Bhubaneswar from January 8 to 10, 2025. The theme is ‘Diaspora’s Contribution to a Viksit Bharat’, celebrating the diaspora’s role in India’s development. Prime Minister Modi inaugurates the event on January 9, and President Christine Carla Kangaloo of Trinidad & Tobago addresses virtually. More than 50 countries’ diaspora members participate, and Modi flags off the Pravasi Bharatiya Express tourist train.

Tamil Nadu Governor flagged off the first batch of Kashi Tamil Sangamam 3.0 delegates from Chennai. The 10-day event takes place from February 15 to 24, 2025. Students, teachers, and writers are among the participants. The event aims to rediscover and celebrate historical ties between Tamil Nadu and Kashi. It is organized by the Ministry of Education.

Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju inaugurated the Lok Samvardhan Parv at Raj Ghat in New Delhi. The event showcases key government schemes under the vision of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas.
