June 30 is the day designated by the United Nations to celebrate the International Day of Parliamentarism.
The United Nations General Assembly recognized the role of parliaments in developing the world, and designated the special day. On the same day in the year 1889, the global organization of parliaments called the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) was established.

Notes:
The ‘World Population Day’ is observed across the world, on July 11 every year. The day was first celebrated in the year 1990.
Inspired by the awareness created by ‘Five Billion Day’ on the same day in 1987 when the world’s population reached 5 billion, UNDP recommended the observance of Population Day on July 11. “Putting the brakes on COVID-19: how to safeguard the health and rights of women and girls now” is the theme of the campaign for 2020.

8 September is celebrated as World Literacy Day since 1966 to raise awareness about the importance of literacy for individuals as well as communities.

The 100th death anniversary of Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak is being observed on 1st August, across the country.
Tilak was a prominent extremist leader in the Indian National Congress. Being an integral part of the Lal-Bal-Pal trio, he proclaimed “Swaraj is my birth right and I shall have it”. Tilak was born on July 23, 1856 in Maharashtra and passed away on August 1 in the year 1920.

Every year, Police Commemoration Day is observed on 21st of October. This day is observed in memory to the 10 policemen who were killed by Chinese troops in a surprise attack near Ladakh on October 21, 1959.
As per Police sources, as many as 264 police personnel lost their lives this year while in duty and are remembered during this occasion.

Every year the World Tsunami Awareness Day is observed on November 5.
This is done to create awareness about this deadly disaster which has claimed more than a million lives in the past 100 years. The highest number of deaths took place during the December 2004 Tsunami in Indian ocean.

Public Service Broadcasting Day is observed every year on November 12th. This is to commemorate the visit of Mahatma Gandhi to the studio of All India Radio, Delhi in 1947.
Mahatma Gandhi addressed the displaced people, who had temporarily settled at Kurukshetra in Haryana after partition of India in 1947.

The 9th of December is observed every year as the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide, by the United Nations.
This year marks the 72nd anniversary and a convention in this regard was held in the year 1948. It was at this convention the first Human Rights Treaty was adopted by the United Nations.

On 30th Jan 1948, Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated by Nathuram Godse in the year 1948. On this day, India observes Martyrs Day or Shaheed Diwas, to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi and all martyrs who sacrificed their life for the nation’s freedom.
The 73rd death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was observed as Martyrs’ Day recently.

Every year, Earth Day is observed on April 22nd. The first such day was observed in the year 1970.
In this year’s Earth Day, US President Joe Biden announced his commitment to slash the US’s carbon emission by at least 50% by the year 2030, based on 2005 levels.
