Notes:
A rare 170-carat pink rough diamond weighing 34 grams has been discovered at Lucapa’s Lulo Mine in Angola. Named the ‘Lulo Rose’, it is considered to be the largest pink diamond discovered in the last 300 years.
In 2016, a mining operation yielded a 404-carat white stone named the ‘4th February Stone’. It was the largest ever diamond recovered in Angola.

Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) introduced a new facility for pensioners to submit their digital life certificate.
Under the new ‘Face recognition facility’, pensioners can now submit their digital life certificate on the EPFO portal from anywhere in the country. Union Minister of Labour and Employment Bhupender Yadav launched the face authentication technology.

India and Vietnam have commenced the 3rd edition of Vietnam-India bilateral army exercise ‘Ex VINBAX 2022’.
The 20 day military exercise is scheduled to be conducted at Chandimandir in Haryana. The theme of the exercise is deployment of an Engineer Company and a Medical Team as part of United Nations Contingent for Peacekeeping Operations.

Scientists at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) have developed a new hydrogen fuel cell.
It is the world’s most durable cell so far and also the most cost-effective. This can expand the scope of application of green energy across the world. Hydrogen fuel cells efficiently generate power by converting hydrogen and oxygen into electricity, without emitting carbon dioxide, particulate matter, and other air pollutants.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the IFSC Banking Unit (IBU) of Deutsche Bank AG at the Gujarat International Finance-Tech City (GIFT City) in Ahmedabad.
The IBU will offer financial products across trade finance, fixed income and currencies in the initial phase. It will also provide all approved international financing products to Deutsche Bank’s clients in India and overseas.

As per researchers, two invasive species, the American bullfrog and brown tree snake have collectively caused USD 16.3bn in global damage between 1986 and 2020.
In addition to ecological harm, the invasive pair have also ruined farm crops and caused costly power outages. The brown tree snake caused damages by spreading uncontrollably across several Pacific islands. These findings will help officials to invest more in pest controls and bio-security measures.

As per the recent announcement of Renewable Energy Ministry, world’s largest floating solar power plant is going to be built in Madhya Pradesh’s Khandwa.
The plant is expected to generate 600 Megawatt power by 2022-23 and is estimated to be worth over Rs 3000 crores. At present, India’s largest floating solar power project is operational at Ramagundam in Telangana, being operated by NTPC.

Karnataka government launched the ‘Punyakoti Dattu Yojana’ portal for adopting cows. The scheme aims for providing nutrition and care for the cows.
Over 1300 people have donated to goshalas (cow shelters). 123 shelters are registered on the Punyakoti Dattu Yojana portal across the state and registration of 60 centres is in progress, as per the state animal husbandry Ministry.

The Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) signed an MoU with the Bangladesh Roads and Highways department in Dhaka for emergency supply of petroleum goods via Bangladesh territory to India.
As per the Indian High Commission, this is an interim set up for urgent supply of petroleum products due to damage caused by the flood in Assam.

Jagdeep Dhankhar has won India’s Vice Presidential election 2022, defeating Opposition candidate Margaret Alva.
Dhankhar will be India’s 14th Vice President, taking over from the incumbent Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu. He has served as a Minister of state for Parliamentary Affairs in the Janata Dal government. He became the Governor of West Bengal in July 2019.
