Cambodia chairs the ASEAN partnership this year (2022) under the theme “Asean Act: Addressing challenges together.
Singapore co-chairs the annual Asean-India foreign ministers’ meeting in Phnom Penh, Capital of Cambodia. India’s External affairs minister S Jaishankar attended the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)- India Foreign Minister’s meeting.

Notes:
Five women officers of the Indian Naval Air Squadron 314 based at Porbandar in Gujarat created history by completing the first all-women independent maritime reconnaissance and surveillance mission over the north Arabian Sea onboard a Dornier 228 aircraft.
The aircraft was captained by Mission Commander Lt Commander Aanchal Sharma, who had pilots  Lt Shivangi and Lt Apurva Gite  and tactical and sensor officers in her team.

The Indian Army has launched the ‘Him Drone-a-thon’ programme in association with the Drone Federation of India.
The programme is connects all stake holders including industry, academia, software developers and drone product manufacturers. The Indian Army’s support to India’s drone ecosystem is based on the principle of ‘good available indigenously’ is better than the ‘best available globally’.

Dr N Kalaiselvi has become the first woman Director General of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
The Energy researcher will be the Secretary to the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research. She is the only fourth woman scientist to occupy the position of a Secretary of a scientific department under the central government.

At present, 41 per cent of taxes collected by the Centre is devolved in 14 instalments among states during a fiscal year.
The Centre recently released two instalments of tax devolution to state governments amounting to Rs 1.16 lakh crore to states.

Papua New Guinea’s Parliament has elected Prime Minister James Marape to power after elections in the South Pacific Island nation.
Marape was sworn in as the Prime Minister for a second time. The contenders to lead the new government were Marape and Peter O’Neill, his predecessor who resigned in 2019. Papua New Guinea is a diverse tribal society, which gained independence from Australia in 1975.

The government has made changes to the Atal Pension Yojana (APY) rules to be made effective from October 1, 2022.
According to a notification from the finance ministry, any citizen who is or has been an income taxpayer will not be eligible to join the pension scheme. If an income tax-paying investor joins the APY scheme on or after October 1, the APY account will be liable to be closed.

The state government of Odisha joined hands with National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Chennai for protection of saline embankments and coastal protection measures.
As Odisha is vulnerable to flood and cyclone, the partnership with NIOT will help save the life and property of people in coastal areas. The state government has planned to take up climate resilient coastal protection measures by strengthening saline embankments using the latest technology.

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, launched “SMILE-75 Initiative”, under ‘SMILE: Support for Marginalised Individuals for Livelihood and Enterprise’.
The Ministry has identified 75 Municipal Corporations to implement rehabilitation of persons engaged in the act of begging. The Ministry has allocated a total budget of Rs.100 crore for the SMILE project for up to 2025-26.

Union Ministry of Science and Technology organised the DST StartUp Utsav. As per the Union Minister of State of Science and Technology, there are currently 105 unicorns, out of which 49 per cent of the start-ups are from tier-2 and tier-3 cities.
The event included the release of exclusive books displaying 75 Impactful incubated StartUps, 75 Impactful StartUps supported by NIDHI-Seed and 75 Impactful Smart Startups supported by NIDHI-EIR.
