Tamil Nadu has launched its Footwear & Leather Products Policy 2022 at the Footwear & Leather Sector Conclave. The state accounts for 26 per cent of national leather manufacturing output and 48 per cent of exports.
The policy will offer a special package for footwear and leather products (FLP) manufacture and incentives for FLP Design Studios. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin also laid the foundation stone for a 400-crore Mega Footwear Manufacturing park at Ranipet.

India’s’ Grand Master Arjun Erigaisi won the Abu Dhabi Masters chess title by scoring two back-to-back victories.
As per the live ranking, Arjun is placed at a career-best 24th and third among Indians behind Viswanathan Anand (12th) and D. Gukesh (20th).

The Chief of National Mission for Clean Ganga recently mentioned about the ‘Arth Ganga model’ during his address to the Stockholm World Water Week 2022.
It is the new model of sustainable development of rivers, which aims to connect people with the river through economy. The Arth Ganga initiative ‘strives to contribute at least 3% of the GDP from the Ganga Basin’. Its verticals include ‘Zero Budget Natural Farming, Monetization and Reuse of Sludge and Wastewater, livelihood generation, public participation and tourism.

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs and the Central TB Division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare have now selected 75 tribal districts, for focused interventions to eradicate Tuberculosis.
This decision has been taken after door-to-door TB screening of over 68,000 villages in tribal districts held over the past six months.

Bangladesh observed the death anniversary of its National poet Kazi Nazrul Islam on August 27. He is also known as ‘Bidrohi Kobii’ or the ‘Rebel Poet’.
Kazi Nazrul Islam was a anti-colonial crusader and a strong proponent of humanism and religious harmony. He was also a musician and social reformer. Born in West Bengal, he composed several thousands of poems known as ‘Nazrul Geeti’ which inspired people during the 1971 Liberation War of Bangladesh.

Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen won his second badminton world title, beating Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn in the final in Tokyo.
World number-one Axelsen, who won Olympic gold last year, also claimed the world title in Glasgow in 2017. The 28-year-old has reached the final without losing a single game. This is also his sixth title of the season.

IIT Guwahati hosted the Grand Finale of Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2022.  It hosted problem statements given by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
Smart India Hackathon (SIH) was started in the year 2017. This year, Smart India Hackathon – Junior has been introduced as a pilot for school students to build a culture of innovation. Each problem statement had a winning amount of Rs 1 lakh.

African health ministers recently adopted the updated Regional strategy for the management of environmental determinants of human health in the African Region 2022–2032.
It has been designed to promote coordination between the health and environment sectors, as recognised by the Libreville Declaration, 2008.

Nagaland got its second railway station, after a gap of 100 years. The Donyi Polo Express from Shokhuvi Railway Station was flagged off by the state’s Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio.
The train will run between Guwahati in Assam and Naharlagun in Arunachal Pradesh on a daily basis. The first railway station was set up at Dimapur Railway Station in 1903.

The latest National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report showed that the cases of crimes against women in Delhi accounted for 32.20% of total crimes among all 19 metro cities. Delhi is the most unsafe metropolitan city for women across the country, followed by Mumbai and Bengaluru.
The report also noted that the burden of deaths by suicide has increased in India  by 7.2 per cent from 2020, with a total of 1,64,033 people dying by suicide in 2021.
