Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh attended the annual meeting of Defence Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Apart from India, the Foreign Ministers of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan also participated in the meeting. The preparations for the forthcoming SCO Summit of Heads of State in Samarkand were also discussed.

The Uttar Pradesh government has announced that it is set to build an education township in the state.
The move will provide high-quality education to the youth and equip them with a variety of professional skills in a single place. It will also provide accommodation and other facilities to students and teachers.

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu launched a book titled ‘New India: Selected Writings 2014-19. It has articles penned by Arun Jaitley , who served as the Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs of the Government of India from 2014 to 2019.
The book was launched on the BJP leader’s third death anniversary.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated ‘Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre’ in Punjab’s Mohali district.
Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to treat all types of cancers. The hospital has been built at a cost of over ₹660 crore by Tata Memorial Centre.

A new agreement has been signed between the German and Canadian governments to begin shipping hydrogen across the Atlantic as early as 2025.
The Canada-Germany Hydrogen Alliance has been signed as Europe tries to avoid Russian energy amid the war in Ukraine.

India and Bangladesh held the meeting of the Joint Rivers Commission (JRC) in New Delhi where the countries finalised MoU on interim water of the Kushiyara River.
The meeting was held after 12 years of long gap, according to a statement released by Ministry of Jal Shakti. Both sides welcomed the finalization of the design and location of water intake point on the Feni River to meet the drinking water needs of Tripura’s Sabroom town.

Virat Kohli has become the first Indian and the second player overall in international cricket history to have played 100 matches each in all three formats of the game.
Kohli has now 100 T20Is to his name in addition to 102 Tests and 262 ODIs since he made his international debut in August 2008. The first player with the record was New Zealand batter Ross Taylor who retired recently.

Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen won his second badminton world title, beating Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn in the final in Tokyo.
World number-one Axelsen, who won Olympic gold last year, also claimed the world title in Glasgow in 2017. The 28-year-old has reached the final without losing a single game. This is also his sixth title of the season.

The 50th All Manipur Shumang Leela Festival 2021-2022 kicked off at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen in Imphal.
Manipur Governor La Ganesan and Chief Minister N. Biren Singh attended the inaugural function. Shumang Leela is a traditional form of theatre in Manipur and the roles of female artists are all played by male actors and male characters are played by female artists.

Notes:
The Indian Army began the reconstruction of the 150-year-old Bailey Bridge over the Sukhtawa River, which collapsed earlier in April. It is on the Bhopal -Nagpur Highway.
The Army is using the technique, which is used to build bridges in hilly areas. The bridge will be 93 feet long and 10.50 feet wide. It will be very strong and can sustain even 40 tonnes of weight.
