Tamil Nadu has launched its Footwear & Leather Products Policy 2022 at the Footwear & Leather Sector Conclave. The state accounts for 26 per cent of national leather manufacturing output and 48 per cent of exports.
The policy will offer a special package for footwear and leather products (FLP) manufacture and incentives for FLP Design Studios. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin also laid the foundation stone for a 400-crore Mega Footwear Manufacturing park at Ranipet.

The Philippines has been hit by the tropical cyclone Ma-on that has damaged the main Luzon Island in the country.
The cyclone has killed at least three people and injured four others, as per the country’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council. Ma-on was the sixth tropical cyclone to hit this Southeast Asian country this year.

Former Chief Economic Adviser KV Subramanian has been appointed as the Executive Director for India at the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Subramanian’s term will continue for a period of three years or until further orders. The tenure of economist Surjit S Bhalla as ED (India), IMF has been curtailed up to 31 October, 2022.

Women’s Equality Day is celebrated in the United States annually on August 26. The day commemorates the decision to give women official voting right in the USA.
An amendment known as the Nineteenth Amendment was made to the US constitution in 1920 to give equal voting rights to women.

The Indian Navy has announced that India’s first Indigenous Aircraft Carrier (IAC-1) will be commissioned on September 2.
As per the Navy, the warship will be christened ‘Vikrant’ and it will mark a milestone of realisation of Nation’s commitment towards self-reliance. The ship was first launched in August 2013 while the sea trials began in August 2021.

The Civil Aviation Ministry has exempted Boeing 787 aircraft from GPS-aided GEO Augmented Navigation (GAGAN) augmentation system compliance till 2025.
GAGAN is an augmentation system jointly developed by the Airports Authority of India and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). . It is capable of providing navigation services for departure, en-route and landing operations to equipped planes.

Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen won his second badminton world title, beating Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn in the final in Tokyo.
World number-one Axelsen, who won Olympic gold last year, also claimed the world title in Glasgow in 2017. The 28-year-old has reached the final without losing a single game. This is also his sixth title of the season.

India’s Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has issued a notification on standardising the process for issuance of international driving permit (IDP).
Through this amendment, the format, size, colour etc. for IDP has been standardized for issuance across India. Under the Convention on International Road Traffic of 1949 (Geneva Convention), India is required to issue the permit for acceptance in other countries.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot inaugurated a month-long Rajiv Gandhi Rural Olympic Games in Jodhpur.
The Village Olympics is expected to see the participation of 44,000 villages across Rajasthan and 30 lakh people. Out of the 30 lakh participants, 9 lakh are women. The Games include volleyball, hockey, tennis ball cricket and Kho Kho.

Notes:
National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has approved an allocation of Rs 230 crore for rural infrastructure projects in Mizoram.
The Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) was launched in 1995-96. NABARD has sanctioned aggregate loans amounting to Rs 1744.51 crore for critical rural infrastructure like rural roads, bridges, drinking water and health infrastructure.
