PM Modi Unveils Sapta Dhara Framework for Viksit Bharat
Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced the seven-pillar Sapta Dhara framework during the 80th Independence Day address from the Red Fort in New Delhi on 15 August 2026. The framework sets a national target of Viksit Bharat by 2047 and groups growth priorities into seven streams covering industry, agriculture, technology, infrastructure, defence, energy, and soft power.
Sapta Dhara Framework
Sapta Dhara is also referred to as Shakti Ki Saptadhara. The seven streams named in the framework are manufacturing, agriculture and food processing, technology and innovation, Gati Shakti, self-reliance in defence, the green and blue economy, and India’s soft power.
Gati Shakti is a logistics and infrastructure planning approach used for integrated connectivity and project coordination. The green economy covers low-carbon development, while the blue economy relates to the sustainable use of ocean and marine resources.
Manufacturing, Technology and Defence
The manufacturing component places emphasis on cost, quality, and scale. These three terms are commonly used in industrial policy to refer to price competitiveness, product standards, and production capacity.
The technology and innovation stream includes a mission-mode plan to train 1 crore youth in Artificial Intelligence over the next year. Artificial Intelligence is a branch of computer science that enables machines to perform tasks such as learning, pattern recognition, and language processing.
The defence stream refers to self-reliance in defence, a policy area linked with domestic production of military equipment, platforms, and systems.
Energy Security and Urban Gas Network
India has set a target of 100 GW nuclear energy capacity by 2047. Nuclear energy is produced through controlled fission reactions in reactors, and India operates both pressurised heavy water reactors and imported light water reactor technology.
Five new nuclear reactors are scheduled to become operational in the next six to seven years. India’s domestic piped natural gas network has expanded from 70 cities 12 years ago to more than 700 cities, with 1.75 crore households connected.
