PM Modi to Inaugurate India’s First Digital Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Memorial and Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum in Chhattisgarh on the state’s 25th foundation day. The event will mark the launch of India’s first fully digital museum dedicated to tribal heroes, along with infrastructure projects worth over ₹14,260 crore. The grand celebration will take place in Naya Raipur, where the Prime Minister will also unveil a statue of Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee at the newly constructed Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly.

A Landmark Digital Museum of Tribal Heritage

Built at a cost of ₹50 crore across 10 acres, the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Memorial and Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum will serve as a global centre for tribal culture, valor, and history. The museum features 16 thematic galleries that chronicle centuries of tribal resistance to colonial rule. Each section combines historical artefacts, documentary footage, folk art, and digital storytelling to celebrate the unsung heroes of India’s freedom struggle. Visitors will also experience the “Aadi Shourya” e-book and museum portal launched by the Prime Minister.

Immersive Technology and Cultural Experience

The museum employs cutting-edge virtual reality, AI-based exhibits, and 3D projections to narrate tribal stories. An artificial intelligence camera allows visitors to visualise themselves in traditional tribal attire against forest backdrops. Replicas of sacred trees such as Sal, Mahua, and Saja, adorned with digital leaves that tell stories of 14 revolts, greet visitors at the entrance. The galleries also display sculptures of iconic figures including Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh, Bhagwan Birsa Munda, and Gend Singh, with interactive zones for youth engagement and accessible infrastructure for all visitors.

Historic Tribal Uprisings Showcased

The museum documents several major revolts, beginning with the Halba Rebellion (1774–1779), recognised as India’s first tribal uprising. It also highlights the Surguja (1792), Bhopalpatnam (1795), Paralkot (1824–1825), and Tarapur (1842–1854) rebellions, which reflected the tribals’ defiance against feudal exploitation and colonial intrusion. The Meria (1842–1863), Koi (1859), and Lingagiri (1856–1860) uprisings demonstrate the prolonged struggle to protect traditional rights and cultural autonomy. The Sonakhan Rebellion (1857), led by Narayan Singh, remains a symbol of Chhattisgarh’s contribution to the national freedom movement.
