PM Modi Launches Major Youth Skilling Initiatives

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently launched several youth-centric schemes worth over ₹62,000 crore. These initiatives aim to boost education, skill development and entrepreneurship across India. The launch took place during the Kaushal Deekshant Samaroha at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The focus is on upgrading Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and linking youth with global skill demands.
of Youth Skill Development
Recently, India intensified efforts to empower its youth through skill enhancement. The government introduced the Pradhan Mantri Skilling and Employability Transformation through Upgraded ITIs (PM-SETU). This scheme targets the modernisation of over 1,000 ITIs nationwide. It includes the introduction of new machinery and improved infrastructure. The aim is to prepare youth for future industrial challenges and global job markets.
PM-SETU and ITI Upgradation
PM-SETU focuses on transforming ITIs into centres of excellence. These institutes provide industrial education and practical training. The scheme will equip them with advanced machines and technology. Upgraded ITIs are expected to improve employability and entrepreneurship skills. This aligns with the vision of an Aatmanirbhar Bharat, promoting self-reliance through skilled labour.
Vocational Skill Labs in Schools
The government inaugurated 1,200 Vocational Skill Labs in 400 Navodaya Vidyalayas and 200 Eklavya Model Residential Schools. These labs aim to introduce skill training at the school level. Early exposure to vocational skills prepares students for diverse career options. It also bridges the gap between education and industry requirements.
Support for Bihar Youth
Bihar’s Mukhyamantri Nishchay Svyam Sahayata Bhatta Yojana was revamped. Under this scheme, nearly 500,000 graduate youths will receive a monthly allowance of ₹1,000 for two years. Alongside, free skill training will be provided. This initiative encourages skill acquisition and financial support simultaneously. It aims to reduce unemployment and boost local entrepreneurship.
Recognition and Vision for Global Skill Centre
Prime Minister Modi felicitated 46 All India Toppers from ITIs. Their achievements show the success of skill development programmes. Union Minister Jayant Singh reiterated the goal of making India a global hub for skill development. The government’s vision is to harness the intellectual strength of its youth for nation-building.
