National Textiles Ministers’ Conference in Guwahati

The Ministry of Textiles, in collaboration with the Government of Assam, will organise the National Textiles Ministers’ Conference on 8–9 January 2026 in Guwahati. The two-day meet will serve as a national platform to shape a coordinated strategy for positioning India as a global textiles manufacturing hub.

Theme and National Vision

Held under the theme “India’s Textiles: Weaving Growth, Heritage & Innovation,” the conference aligns with the national vision of building a USD 350 billion textile industry and achieving USD 100 billion in textile exports by 2030. Union and State Ministers of Textiles, along with senior officials, will deliberate on policy coherence, investments, and reforms across the textile value chain.

Key Sessions and Focus Areas

The conference agenda includes focused sessions on infrastructure and investment, expanding exports, competitiveness, raw materials and fibres, and new frontiers such as technical textiles and research and development. Special emphasis will be placed on revitalising traditional textiles, particularly handlooms and handicrafts, to align them with contemporary and global markets.

Inaugural Session and North-East Conclave

The inaugural session on 8 January 2026 will be attended by Union Minister of Textiles Shri Giriraj Singh, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, and Minister of State for Textiles Shri Pabitra Margherita, among other dignitaries. A dedicated conclave on strengthening the textiles sector of the North-Eastern Region will also be held, focusing on silk, handloom, bamboo-based textiles, women-led enterprises, and branding “Textiles from North-East” for national and global integration.
