Nal Se Jal

After giving the facelift to the sanitation drive under the Swacch Bharat Mission, the government is expected to launch a similar initiative for the allied issue of water. The newly constituted Ministry of Jal Shakti has set the ball rolling for the government s ambitious plans to provide piped water connections to every household in India by 2024.
Water Crisis
The Report of the Niti Aayog notes that:
- 600 million Indians face high to extreme water stress and about two lakh people die every year due to inadequate access to safe water.
- By 2030, the country s water demand is projected to be twice the available supply, implying severe water scarcity for hundreds of millions of people and an eventual ~6% loss in the country s GDP.
The Nal Se Jal scheme aims to provide piped drinking water to every household under the proposed Jal Jivan Mission.
