MSME Ministry, MoSPI Sign MoU for Statistical Business Register

The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding in New Delhi on 29 September 2026. The agreement covers the development and strengthening of the Statistical Business Register and the National Statistical Business Register.

Statistical Business Register

The Statistical Business Register is a central database of registered statistical units engaged in economic activity. It records businesses, enterprises, establishments, and their key characteristics. Such registers are used in official statistics for unit-level identification and data management.

Udyam Registration and Data Sharing

The MoU provides a framework for sharing unit-wise data from the Udyam Registration ecosystem with MoSPI through Application Programming Interfaces. Udyam Registration is the online registration system for micro, small and medium enterprises in India. The arrangement provides for two-way data exchange between the two ministries.

National Statistical System

The National Statistical Business Register is linked to the wider statistical system used for economic data compilation in India. Business registers are used in many countries to support surveys, frame updates, and enterprise classification. The integration of registration data with statistical databases is a standard feature of official business statistics.
