Meghalaya Hosts First Northeast India Organic Week
Meghalaya has launched its first Northeast India Organic Week, a four-day event aimed at positioning the state and the wider region as a strong competitor in the global organic market. The programme brings together international buyers, organic specialists and youth leaders to accelerate market access and highlight the region’s biodiversity-driven produce.
Regional Collaboration For Organic Promotion
The event is organised by the state agriculture department in partnership with APEDA, the Union commerce ministry and IFOAM-Organics Asia. Officials said the initiative will help expand global linkages by showcasing high-value organic produce and strengthening long-term commercial relationships.
International Participation And Buyer-Seller Meets
Delegations, importers and representatives from 13 countries, including Malaysia, Taiwan, Mongolia, New Zealand and Indonesia, are attending the event. A major attraction is the APEDA buyer-seller meet, designed to foster direct engagement between producers and global markets looking for sustainable and certified organic products.
Showcasing Meghalaya’s Organic Strengths
State officials highlighted the growing international demand for Meghalaya’s signature products such as ginger, turmeric, fruits and niche spices. APEDA representatives noted that community-led farming and rich biodiversity make the state an ideal centre for expanding organic agriculture and tapping emerging markets across regions.
