Mary Jackson

Mary Jackson is NASA’s first African-American female engineer. The US space agency has renamed its Washington DC headquarters in her honour recently. Jackson commenced her career at the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics in April 1951. She worked at NASA for more than three decades as a research mathematician and then as an engineer. In 2019, she was conferred with Congressional Gold Medal – US’ highest civilian honour – under the Hidden Congressional Gold Medal Act.
