Former Rajasthan Mahila Congress president Mamta Sharma has been appointed as National Commission for Women chairperson.
She has succeeded Ms Girija Vyas who demitted the office in the beginning of April.
Ms Sharma was a member of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly and president of Rajasthan State Women Congress Committee.
Speaking on the occasion, she said, in order to build a healthy society, it is imperative to safeguard the interests of young girls, provide them with safe and healthy environment and bring about attitudinal changes in discriminatory attitudes.
