Jaapi

Jaapi

Jaapi is a conical bamboo hat that is covered with the dried leaves of a palm tree that grows in the Upper Assam’s rainforests called tokou. It is an important symbol of Assamese culture and identity. It is also used by Assamese farmers in the rural areas to protect themselves from sun and rain while working in the fields. It is used in a decorated version to felicitate guests in important official functions.
