Institute of National Importance Status to Gujarat Ayurved University

To upgrade the standard of Ayurveda education in the country, the Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Prakash Javadekar addressed the press after the Union Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, 8th January 2020 and informed that the status of the Gujarat Ayurved University located in Jamnagar will be elevated as an institute of national importance under which the institute will have the autonomy to upgrade the standard of Ayurveda education by framing courses as per the National and International demand in the field of Ayurveda.

A bill for the up-gradation of the status of the university will be introduced in the upcoming session of the Parliament, once the bill is implemented it will help the institute in developing tertiary care in Ayurveda and will also boost the rapidly growing AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Sowa Rigpa and Homeopathy) System in India for addressing the public health challenges. Ayurveda is cost-effective, strengthening of which will also reduce government expenditure on health in the future.
