India Inducts Sabal 20 Logistics Drone
India has enhanced its defense capabilities with the Sabal 20 logistics drone, developed by IIT Kanpur, this drone supports stealth operations and is designed for challenging terrains. The Indian Army has deployed it in the Eastern Theatre, which includes Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim.
Development and Design
The Sabal 20 is created by EndureAir, a UAV technology firm, an electric unmanned helicopter. The drone features variable pitch technology, which can carry loads up to 20 kilograms, which is half its weight. Future upgrades are possible. Its design is inspired by the Chinook helicopter. The tandem rotor design enhances load-carrying efficiency.
Operational Capabilities
The Sabal 20 is built for demanding missions, and offers long-range delivery and precision logistics. The drone operates effectively in high-altitude and rugged environments. Its Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) capability allows for operation in confined spaces. The design maintains low RPM, reducing noise levels.
Stealth and Autonomy
Stealth is a key feature of the Sabal 20. The low noise design makes it suitable for sensitive missions. It includes advanced autonomous flight features. The drone is easy to control, ensuring reliability in various conditions. It can operate effectively in Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) scenarios.
The Sabal 20 supports anti-insurgency operations, which also aids in humanitarian efforts during disasters. Its deployment enhances logistical support in challenging regions. The drone improves operational efficiency for the Indian Army.
