India Begins Trishul 2025 Tri-Service Combat Exercise Along Pakistan Border

India has launched its annual Trishul 2025 tri-Service combat exercise along the western border with Pakistan, bringing together the Army, Navy, and Air Force for large-scale coordinated operations. The exercise follows Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s sharp warning to Pakistan over its military build-up near the Sir Creek region.

Heightened Tensions Around Sir Creek

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s recent statement has added a strategic edge to Trishul 2025. Cautioning Islamabad, he warned that any aggression in the Sir Creek sector would invite a response that could “change both history and geography.” Sir Creek, a 96-kilometre tidal estuary dividing Gujarat’s Rann of Kutch and Pakistan’s Sindh province, remains a long-standing territorial dispute. India has issued a “Notice to Airmen (NOTAM)” restricting airspace use over Rajasthan and Gujarat from “30 October to 10 November” to accommodate the ongoing exercises.

Pakistan’s Parallel Movements

Pakistan has also imposed temporary flight restrictions over its central and southern airspace on “28–29 October”, likely for military drills or weapons testing. Security analysts view this as a counter-display of preparedness reminiscent of post-“Operation Sindoor”, when India neutralised multiple terror installations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir earlier this year.

Trishul 2025: Routine Yet Robust

While officials describe Trishul as a “routine” annual drill, the “2025 edition” is notably expansive in scope. The exercise integrates land, air, and maritime operations with both offensive and defensive combat simulations. Over “20,000 troops” have been deployed, supported by battle tanks, howitzers, attack helicopters, and missile systems. Amphibious operations are being carried out off the Saurashtra coast, complemented by desert warfare manoeuvres in Rajasthan.

Exam Oriented Facts

  • Trishul is an annual tri-Service exercise involving coordinated operations by the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
  • Sir Creek spans 96 km between Gujarat’s Rann of Kutch and Pakistan’s Sindh province.
  • Operation Sindoor (May 2025) targeted nine terror sites across Pakistan and PoK.
  • NOTAM stands for Notice to Airmen, issued to alert aircraft to airspace restrictions.

Air and Naval Power Integration

The Indian Air Force has initiated “Mahagujraj” operations, deploying “Rafale” and “Sukhoi-30MKI” fighters, aerial refuellers, AWACS systems, and UAVs from multiple bases. Simultaneously, the Navy has deployed “frigates and destroyers” for extensive manoeuvres off Gujarat’s coast. Complementary drills like “Trinetra”, focusing on electromagnetic spectrum dominance and counter-drone warfare, are enhancing India’s tri-Service readiness and deterrence posture along the western frontier.
