IAF Rafale Jets Reach Australia for Pitch Black 2026
The Indian Air Force contingent reached Australia on 17 July 2026 for Exercise Pitch Black 2026. The deployment includes four Rafale fighter jets, two C-17 Globemaster III transport aircraft, and more than 120 Air Warriors.
Exercise Pitch Black
Exercise Pitch Black is a multinational air combat exercise hosted by the Royal Australian Air Force. The 2026 edition is scheduled from 20 July to 7 August 2026 at RAAF Bases Darwin, Tindal, and Amberley in northern Australia.
Indian Air Force Participation
The Indian Air Force has participated in earlier editions of Pitch Black with Su-30MKI fighter aircraft. The 2026 deployment marks the first participation of Rafale jets in this exercise.
Operational Features
Exercise Pitch Black 2026 involves around 20 nations, up to 100 jet aircraft, and more than 2,500 personnel. The exercise includes complex air combat training, interoperability drills, and operations with fifth-generation F-35 stealth fighters.
