Haryana Sex Ratio at Birth Reaches Five-Year High in 2025

Haryana has recorded a significant improvement in its sex ratio at birth (SRB), which rose to 923 in 2025, the highest level in the last five years. The figure marks a 13-point increase from 910 in 2024, reflecting sustained administrative and enforcement measures aimed at curbing gender-biased practices in the state.

Latest SRB Data and Birth Statistics

According to official data, Haryana registered a total of 5,19,691 births in 2025. This included 2,70,281 male births and 2,49,410 female births. The SRB of 923 females per 1,000 males represents a notable recovery after a dip in 2024. Officials noted that the 2025 figure surpasses the state’s SRB recorded between 2020 and 2024, indicating a positive trend.

District-Level Performance Across the State

Panchkula emerged as the best-performing district, recording an SRB of 971, a sharp rise from 915 in 2024. Other districts with SRB above 950 included Fatehabad at 961 and Panipat at 951. Several districts also exceeded the state average, such as Ambala, Bhiwani, Hisar, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Mewat, Sirsa, and Yamunanagar. However, Gurugram saw only a marginal rise to 901, while Sonipat recorded a decline to 894.

Crackdown on Sex-Selective Practices

Officials attributed the improvement primarily to strict enforcement against prenatal sex determination and illegal abortions. In 2025, authorities conducted 154 raids under the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act. As part of these actions, 41 chemist shops were sealed and 395 medical termination of pregnancy centres were shut down for violations. Additionally, 114 FIRs were registered under the MTP Act, with 83 chargesheets filed.
