HAL to Hand Over LCA Tejas and HTT-40 Aircraft

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is scheduled to hand over LCA Tejas Final Operational Clearance (FOC) twin-seater trainer aircraft and HTT-40 basic trainer aircraft to the Indian Air Force (IAF) on 18 September 2026 in Bengaluru. The event will also include delivery of Dhruv Next Generation helicopters to Pawan Hans Limited.

Light Combat Aircraft Tejas

The Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas is an indigenously developed fighter aircraft programme of India. The FOC twin-seater trainer variant is a two-seat version used for training and operational conversion, and it belongs to the 4.5-generation category of combat aircraft. The aircraft is designed for all-weather operations and multi-role missions.

HTT-40 Basic Trainer Aircraft

The HTT-40 is an ab-initio trainer aircraft developed by HAL for primary flying training. Ab-initio training refers to the first stage of pilot training, where cadets learn basic flying skills before moving to advanced trainers and fighter aircraft. The aircraft is intended for use by the Indian Air Force in basic training roles.

Contract and Delivery Details

The handover includes the final two LCA FOC Trainer aircraft under the original FOC contract placed in 2010. The HTT-40 delivery marks the start of supplies under a contract for 70 aircraft for the Indian Air Force. HAL is the main public sector aerospace manufacturer in India and produces military aircraft, helicopters, engines, and related systems.
