Gujarat Tops India With 5 Lakh Rooftop Solar Installations
Gujarat has reinforced its leadership in India’s renewable energy transition by crossing five lakh residential rooftop solar installations, achieving a cumulative installed capacity of 1,879 MW. The state now stands at the top of national charts for rooftop solar adoption, reflecting sustained policy support and strong public participation in clean energy initiatives.
Halfway to the 10 Lakh Rooftop Solar Target
With this milestone, Gujarat has already achieved nearly 50 per cent of its ambitious target of installing 10 lakh residential rooftop solar systems by March 2027. The steady pace of installations highlights the state’s long-term planning and consistent execution in the renewable energy sector. Rooftop solar has emerged as a key pillar of Gujarat’s decentralised energy strategy.
Subsidies Drive Household Participation
Residential consumers in the state have availed subsidies worth ₹3,778 crore under the rooftop solar scheme so far. These financial incentives have significantly reduced upfront costs for households, making solar power an affordable and attractive option. The rise in installations indicates growing confidence among citizens in solar energy as a reliable and cost-effective power source.
Policy Reforms Simplify Solar Adoption
Gujarat has implemented multiple reforms to ease rooftop solar adoption. The state provides assistance of ₹2,950 towards regulatory charges for systems up to 6 kW. Network strengthening charges have been waived, and consumers are no longer required to sign net metering agreements. There is also no load limit for residential systems, allowing households to sell surplus electricity to the grid without banking charges.
