Gujarat CM Inaugurates ‘Asha Van’ for Early Cancer Screening
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Thursday inaugurated a mobile cancer screening unit, ‘Asha Van’, in Gandhinagar, aimed at early detection and diagnosis of cancer. The initiative is expected to significantly strengthen preventive healthcare, especially in rural and underserved areas of the State.
Advanced Mobile Diagnostic Facility
The Asha Van is equipped with ultra-modern medical technology, including EVA-Pro diagnostics, a mammography unit, and expert teleconsultation facilities. It is capable of screening and diagnosing multiple life-threatening diseases on the spot. These include lung, oral, blood, cervical, pancreatic, liver, breast, and prostate cancers, enabling early intervention and timely treatment.
Boost to Rural Healthcare and Preventive Medicine
The mobile unit is designed to operate at any location, making specialised cancer screening accessible beyond urban centres. The Chief Minister said early detection through such initiatives can save lives and help patients return to normal life with appropriate treatment. The project aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Health and Wellness for All”, with a strong focus on rural outreach.
Role of Indian Red Cross Society
Chief Minister Patel formally handed over the Asha Van to the Bhavnagar branch of the Indian Red Cross Society for public service. The van is capable of screening for 10 types of cancer and will be deployed across communities to maximise coverage. Representatives from Genwork Pharma and officials of the Red Cross Society were present during the inauguration.
